Back to School Coalition Update

September 9, 2009

We hope the summer treated you well! Now that school is underway again we wanted to give you some updates about what CCCF is up to and how you can become involved.

About Us

CCCF is an organization of cyberschool parents who work to support this great option for our children's education. We are the voice of online public school families, working to educate policymakers about online education and address the many misperceptions about virtual schools.

Our policymakers are making tough decisions about where to make cuts, so we need to make our voices heard to ensure that our schools and our kids are treated fairly in any policy debates, including discussions about funding! As parents with the common interest of seeing our children succeed in the educational setting that works best for them, we are a strong voice for online education.  But we can't do this alone.

We invite any online school parent interested in supporting online education and keeping this option open for their children to join the coalition. Visit us at www.coloradocyberfamilies.org to sign up or for more information.

We'd also welcome the chance to meeting in person with families from one of our many online public schools to explain more about what the coalition does and how families can get involved. If you have an event where we could say a few words and share information about us, please let us know. Send a note to families@coloradocyberfamilies.org.

Online Education in the News

STUDY FINDS THAT ONLINE EDUCATION BEATS THE CLASSROOM

A recent 93-page report on online education, conducted by SRI International for the Department of Education, has a starchy academic title, but a most intriguing conclusion: "On average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face-to-face instruction."

National Update

US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will host a live, televised town hall on Tuesday, September 15 from 6 - 9 p.m. The public can participate by phone and email. For details about how to participate please click here.

We encourage you to participate to learn more about federal education policy and submit your questions about public online schools.

2010 Day at the Capitol

Last year, we had our best Day at the Capitol EVER.  Click here to check out some photos.  Planning is underway for our annual Day at the Capitol. Stay tuned for more details. Together, we can make DATC '10 even better than last year!!!

Facebook

Just a reminder that you can find CCCF on Facebook. We've seen steady growth and a lot of activity on our Colorado Coalition of Cyberschool Families group on Facebook. To join the group, search for "Colorado Coalition of Cyberschool Families" in the Groups section of Facebook.
