FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: Where will most of the activities for Cyberschools' Day at the Capitol (CDATC) take place? A: Check-in, lunch and classes will be at the Sherman Street Event Center this year, located two blocks north of the capitol at 1770 Sherman Street. Q: Why is CDATC in a different location this year? Will we get to go to the capitol at all? A: Because of the record breaking attendance last year we decided to move CDATC to a larger location to comfortably accommodate more families. The capitol is just two blocks away and we will provide a limited quantity of capitol tours as well as our Cyberschools Rally on the West Steps once again. Families are also welcome to check out the capitol on their own. Q: Is there a cost to attend Cyberschools' Day at the Capitol? A: There is no cost to attend CDATC. The Colorado Coalition of Cyberschool Families (CCCF) and Colorado Cyberschools Association (CCA) are handling all of the planning for CDATC and have covered all of the costs. This year, we will provide lunch, CCCF brochures and info to give to your legislators at no charge to all attendees. Q: Will there be t-shirts this year? A: Like many organizations we had to cut back on our budget this year. We will not be providing t-shirts this year, but we encourage families to wear the shirts from previous years or their school shirts. Q: Where do I go to check-in for CDATC? What time is check-in? A: We will have several registration tables set-up in the Red Room at the Sherman Street Event Center throughout the morning of CDATC. Check-in starts at 9am. Q: What do I need to know about going to the capitol building? A: You will need to go through a metal detector to enter the capitol - please plan accordingly. Because of the large number of attendees at our CDATC, we encourage all families to use the stairs in the capitol rather than the elevators. If you need access to an elevator there are several in the capitol and there is a first floor entrance to the capitol on the north side of the building Q: Is there time during the day to talk to my legislator? A: We encourage you to talk to your legislator while you are at the capitol. We have planned a day full of fun and informative sessions but you are free to find your legislator at anytime during the day. We will offer an online session on talking to your legislator soon. Q: How do I find my legislator? A: Please visit www.usps.gov and click on "Find a zip code" to find your nine digit zip code. Then visit www.votesmart .org and input your nine digit zip code to find out who your legislator is. To contact your legislator visit www.leg.state.co.us, click on "Contact information". Q: What kinds of activities can I participate in at CDATC? A: CCCF/CCA has planned a day full of activities for attendees including: capitol tours (available at registration), speakers, a legislative update and student activities. An agenda of the day's events will be posted soon. Q: Where should I park for CDATC? A: Parking around the Sherman Street Event Center and the state capitol can be a challenge but there are several surface lots around the capitol that you can park at for a cost. Expect to pay around $12 for a full day at these lots. Most of the larger lots accept credit cards. Street parking is available but difficult to find and most of the street parking is only for two hours - you will be ticketed if you are there longer than two hours. Handicapped parking is available in the surface lot located on Grant Street between Colfax and 14th. Q: What time is CDATC? A: Registration for CDATC begins at 9 AM and is over at 3pm. Q: What can I do in Denver after the event? Are there hotels nearby? A: There are several things you can do after the "official" events have ended. We suggest you visit your legislators, but if you have already done that you can take in the sights and sounds in downtown Denver. Visit: www.denver.org for activity and lodging information.
