Coalition supports decision by Legislative Audit Committee

As parents of students who attend Colorado’s full-time online K-12 public schools, we stand behind today’s decision of the Legislative Audit Committee to not move forward with another audit of the state’s online public schools.

We know firsthand that online schools fill a critical need in our state. Nearly all students enrolled in online programs did so because their traditional public school was unable to meet their needs.

As parents, we support efforts by policymakers and school administrators to address issues of concern in Colorado’s public schools. However, our online public schools already meet the same state requirements, oversight and accountability standards as all other public schools. If policymakers find value in auditing online public schools again, then we believe there is value in auditing all public schools in the state to identify efficiencies and improvements.

We look forward to working with members of the General Assembly to protect and improve the public school options that are afforded to all Colorado children and to update the outdated state funding model which cannot accommodate innovative models of learning and increasing student mobility rates.
