On Thursday, March 22, 2007, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the online education regulation bill, SB215, based on the Trujillo Commission report, will be heard in the Senate Education Committee. (The committee convenes at 1:30 pm and SB 215 is the 4th bill on the list.) It contains one provision that the Coalition absolutely opposes, and one provision that we absolutely support. WE OPPOSE: The provision which takes 1% of per pupil funding to fund a new online division at the Dept. of Education to oversee online schools. No other school or group of students have money taken away from their education to fund oversight functions at the CDE!! While the Coaliton doesn't oppose oversight by the CDE, the funds for that division should come out of CDE's regular budget, not our children's educational funding!!!!
TELL OUR SENATORS TO LEAVE OUR KIDS' FUNDING ALONE!!! WE SUPPORT: The provision which would remove the prohibition for Colorado students currently educated at home or in a private school from enrolling in a cyberschool for the following school year. Our coalition supports this legislation, because it benefits many Colorado families to have equal access to ALL educational options for their children.
EQUAL ACCESS TO CYBERSCHOOLS FOR ALL COLORADO'S KIDS!!! You can help by attending and testifying at the committee hearing on Thursday, Mar. 22, 2007, at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the Senate Committee room 352 on the third floor of the State Capitol. If you can't make the hearing, please call the following representatives and let them know that we oppose reducing our kids' education funding and support equal access for all colorado students to cyberschools!!!
