ACTION ALERT!!!!!!!

On Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at 3:15 p.m., the Colorado State Board of Education will meet to discuss emergency rules for the regulation of cyberschools.  These rules were required by SB215, passed last year, and have been developed by the CDE Online Division.  They are being presented as emergency rules to the State Board because the legislation required rules to be put into place by Jan. 1, 2008.

Several of the rules are problematic, and revisions have been suggested by the Cyberschool Association.  The Colorado Coalition of Cyberschool Families supports the suggested revisions by the CCA.   WE NEED FAMILIES TO ATTEND TO SHOW THE BOARD THAT THEY NEED TO SUPPORT CYBERSCHOOLS!!!

Our foremost goal as parents who are involved in this process is to ensure that any rules or policies ultimately protect and celebrate our choice in public education. We want to make sure the important role public online schools play in Colorado is not diminished in any way by onerous or burdensome rules.  Thousands of children are benefiting immensely from public online schools and we will continue the fight to keep them strong.

Please come to the Colorado Department of Education building at 201 Colfax, across from the capitol building on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at 3:00 p.m.  The Board meeting room is on the first floor, right off the lobby.  Our Coalition President, Lori Cooney, will be there as part of the Governors' Advisory Board.
