The Colorado Coalition of Cyber-school Families – a network of families whose children are taking classes online – hosted a Day at the Capitol and rally this week, and 1,600 people showed up. That’s up from 700 last year. And 200 the year before. “It’s a fabulous feeling,” said Lori Cooney, of Aurora, president of the group. “In Colorado, we have so much choice in public education, and that’s something to celebrate.” These so-called “cyber-families” do have much to celebrate. A report issued earlier this month by the Colorado Department of Education’s Unit of Online Learning found that enrollment in the state’s 14 online elementary and secondary education programs reached 11,641 for this school year, up from 9,222 last year, a 26 percent increase.
